My Passport For Mac Vs My Passport Ultra

My Passport For Mac Vs My Passport Ultra 5,7/10 8205 votes

The 'for Mac' guise of the WD My Passport comes ready formatted as HFS+ (known on the Mac as Mac OS Extended (journaled) file system). A nice to have for those Mac users who really do not want to go to the trouble of formatting a drive no matter how easy it is. * If your product is not listed above, please visit the product page.

Hi, Sorry if this is in the wrong category! I need to backup my computer for an update. I'm looking to get the 1TB WD my passport. It seems to come with security features. Usb in to hhdmi for mac.

1.) If I buy the cheaper standard one and format it to use with my mac will it delete the security password/and encryption capabilities too? 2.) If it does I assume it's better to buy the 'for mac' version, which should retain the original software right?

3.) If i get the 'for mac' version, can i still partition it to 2 halves without formating it or losing the security features? My passport ultra installation

Hi, is there something different between these drives? For the past 3 years i’ve been using a WD my passport ultra to watch films off of on a samsung 5.1 blu ray player and its been great theres never been an issue however the device became full making me go out and purchase another external hard drive and i bought the elements as i thought they were the same drive just the exterior updated. So i put something on the elements drive and plug it into the blu ray player and the light flashes but then just become solid and isnt recognised in anything other than my mac.

(yes i know what your going to say. Mac has a different file format. Yes i know but the drive is formatted to NTFS same as the My Passport and i use Paragon NTFS so i can transfer files). So i just want to know why wont the new elements drive come up on anything other than a computer and how can i make it appear on my blu ray player?
