Setting a Video as a Screen Saver SaveHollywood is a lightweight and free application for Macs, and it can be obtained from its official website. Download from its official website, and save it to your Mac. Double-click on the downloaded “.dmg” file, and it will launch. When the app launches, double-click on the file named “SaveHollywood.saver” to install it. On the following screen you will be asked what users you wish to have access to the screen saver. You can select either yourself or all the users on the Mac. If you are going for the latter choipe, you will be asked to enter the administrator username and password.

Whatever you choose, when you are done simply click “Install” to install the screen saver. After the screen saver is installed, you need to configure it from your Mac’s settings.

To do that, click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner and select “System Preferences” to be taken to your Mac’s settings panel. Click on “Desktop & Screen Saver” on the screen that follows to customize your screen saver settings. On the following screen, click on “Screen Saver” to go to the screen saver tab. Once there, scroll down in the screen savers list and choose the one that says “SaveHollywood”, then click the “Screen Saver Options” button. You are now all set to add a video to be used as a screen saver on your Mac.

To add a video, click the “+” (plus) sign in the dialog box, and it should let you choose a video file. Navigate through your Mac’s storage and find the video file. Select it and then click the button that says “Add.” 9. Once a video has been added, you can then adjust the settings for how it should be displayed as your screen saver. The options include the size of the video that you wish to have, frames around the video, background colour, music of the video, and so on. When you are done adjusting the settings, click “OK” to save the changes. You can preview the video screen saver by hovering over the thumbnail and clicking on the “Preview” option.

That’s because, ever since I’ve had a Mac, I’ve used my family’s ever-growing collection of pictures as the screen saver. Except sometimes it doesn’t want to work.

Sometimes the OS likes to pretend that my Photo Library doesn’t exist. Times like today, when I upgraded to macOS Sierra, walked away for five minutes and came back to the professional grandeur of National Geographic, not the amateurish buffoonery that I’m accustomed to from my family photos. So what’s a technophile like myself to do? To the Diagnosis-mobile! (OK, so there’s no Diagnosis-mobilebut if there was, there’d be all kinds of blinking lights and a wave pattern readout, it’d be like if KITT and the car from Automan got mixed up at the nostalgia assembly plant.) First, head to System Preferences and open Desktop & Screen Saver.

Once there, select the Screen Saver tab. Check the Source drop-down menu and verify that you don’t see Photo Library as one of the options (it’ll be at the bottom). If you do see it, select it! You’ll be prompted to select a sub folder and you’ll be all set (I like to set it to Photos and forget it, but that can take a while to load if you’ve got a lot of pics). For those that don’t see it, it’s time to track down the most likely culprit, the Photos app. Especially after an upgrade, Photos has to upgrade the library before it can be used by the system.

Shut down your System Preferences, launch the app, and let it work through your photos (depending on how many you have it could take a while). Then shut it down once you’re finished setting up the new Photos (don’t forget to turn on Moments!).
