I have a new hard disk. The MBP had Yosemite. I want to download either Yosemite or El Capitan to install to new hard drive. However everywhere I look the internet direct me to App store, where Yosemite is not available and the iMac I am using has High Sierra therefore, it says I can't download El Capitan because I am running a newer version os OSX. Can anyone direct me to a place where I can download the damn installer for Yosemite or El Capitan without running around like a headless chicken. Apple seems to have a lovely page explaining how to download el captian problem is once you have as you stated 'iMac I am using has High Sierra ' you no longer can get the odler OS, unless as mention in the page I referenced earlier 'Can your Mac use El Capitan? OS X El Capitan requires any of the following Mac models and versions of OS X.'
Which I read as you need the OS X installed first before it will let you re install el capitan, but if you have High sierra, seemingly it will not let you do this. As mentioned ' OS X El Capitan remains available for Mac computers that can't upgrade to macOS High Sierra' and since you already are on high sierra it will not permit to download it on your current system. And you cannot access it using a pc for example to burn iso to a cdrom/dvd/usb because they require you to have appl os to run apple store for O/S. I think you need to contact Apple support and give them your serial number of your laptop and ask how in heck to install El capitan on a blank drive. Or read up on this method.
